The Everybody Edition

Our Getting Lost Games are played by everybody.  And we know that not everybody looks the same.  We know that not everybody can read yet, or has the same mobility, or sees colours and words the same, or processes information the same.  And that means that our games aren’t the best they can be for everybody.
So we want to change that.
So we created the Everybody Edition of the Getting Lost Game. It’s our most popular edition – the Adventurers Edition – but re-imagined to remove barriers so it is truly accessible to everybody. The Everybody Edition is also great for smaller children who are not yet reading and need visual clues instead to enable them to be the reader.
There is not a single card that we haven’t touched. Want to see what’s different?
  • We’ve reimagined cards that assume a level of mobility
  • We’ve made the font 14+
  • We’ve changed our font to a dyslexic font
  • We’ve reduced unnessesary words
  • We’ve removed visual clutter
  • We’ve added visual cues to all cards
  • We’ve reimagined cards that require hearing
  • We’ve added a card to allow for breaks
  • We’ve added cards to reward businesses who cater for those with different accessibility needs

Description

The Getting Lost Game is designed by Kiwi couple Cat & James, with help (and a lot of road testing) from their 3 daughters.  They create, assemble and ship them from their home in Birkenhead, Auckland.  As with all our games we get ideas and feedback from our Getting Lost crew on Facebook, subscribers to our e-mails, purchasers and players of our games, people living with disabilities and other industry guidance.  We thank the literally hundreds of you who have all contributed your thoughts and suggestions.

Which option do I choose?

Boxed – with this option your cards come in our custom designed cardboard box.  This is a great option for gifting and to keep all your cards together in the one place.  It also looks great matching designs with our other booster packs.

Cased – Available in your choice of our 4 coloured cases made using a plant based plastic.  Choose this option for gifting, to keep all your cards safe and together or just because you love the case (we do too!).

More information about the game

You can watch an interview on The Project over here about the game or find out more about us here.

We encourage you to make your own rules and the ways you can play it are endless and entirely adaptable to you.

Here’s some ideas we’ve had though…

      • For quick play, pick a new direction card at each intersection or after you’ve completed a direction
      • For a game that lasts a couple of hours pick a new card every 5 minutes
      • Want to keep it simple?  Just keep in the direction cards (left, right, north, south etc) and take ones more likely to take you further from home
      • Looking for a weekend get away?  Play the game until you get the “head for home” card and then find a hotel or campground in what ever town you are in when you get the card
      • Don’t want to stop for treats?  Take the treat and drink card out before you start playing
      • Want to surprise someone?  Add in your own card in the middle (we even make proposal cards and have been part of over 30 proposals!)

Our suitcases measures 100mm x 85mm x 24mm.  Your suitcase fits up to 45 cards.  If you need more space for extra cards we sell extra suitcases (we call these Matching Luggage) too.

Each card measures 91mm x 55mm.  They have misdirection cards on one side and NZ locations (known as our inspiration cards) on the other side.  All these locations can be found on our blog so its perfect for a little holiday inspiration and dreaming.

The mini compass is an optional add on.  It is 20mm (so please don’t give this to under 3’s as it is a choking hazard).  Just like Superman wears his undies on the outside we recommend you put your compass on the outside of your case too for the best fit.  Just loop the cord around the handle – easy!

The game is ideally suited to outdoor play and there are a few cards you won’t be able to use if you are on foot (like follow a white car – unless you are very quick!).  But if you do want to play on foot we recommend you add on the Walkers Edition for more walking misdirections.

Please remember to play the game responsibly and make sure that you stay safe and able to get yourself back home at all times.  Please don’t leave your case in a hot car – it will warp!  If you are leaving it in a car tuck it under a seat or in the glove box or somewhere cool.
