On our first family holiday to Queensland, I didn’t want it to be the same experience that everyone else has so I took the Aussie Edition of the Getting Lost Game with me.
On our first family holiday to the Gold Coast, I didn’t want it to be the same experience that everyone else has, while theme parks and shopping were definitely on our list, I wanted to put aside time for random unplanned fun too, so we could have so epic and different stories to tell about exploring further afield in Queensland. So we decided to let the Aussie Edition of the Getting Lost guide us for 2 days of our holiday.
We started out our day at the beachfront in Broadbeach. The cards led us to Surfers Paradise, where we stopped to take a picture (and found some wise words to live by)! We winded through the suburbs of Gold Coast until we got a stop for treat card, we stopped Capri on Via Roma which is a coolest food mart and food court and they had the best scoop ice cream and iced coffee. While we enjoyed our treats, we saw it backed onto the waterways and there was GoBoat where you can hire and skipper your own boat. Who could pass that up! So after a safety briefing, off we went. The boys had turns driving while I got to relax in the sunshine and enjoy the view and the treats we bought. This was the most relaxing part of our day, it got crazier from there!
Back in the car we managed to get a bit father a field, heading into more rural areas, using koala signs and the first natural attraction we could see, the signs told us Tambourine Mountain was the goal. Take a right if it’s an eucalyptus tree let us straight to Thunderbird Park. As soon as we saw the sign for High ropes we had to do it! We booked in and had lunch at their café while we waited for our turn. We showed bravery as we sailed through the trees!
We wound our way after tambourine until we spotted a sign that caught out attention, Stop and feed the reindeer? Yes please! But it was the sign behind that, that got my adrenaline junkie boys excited. Oh what they get me into, going through muddy bogs, and flying down huge hills at speed through the bush!
I was talking to the driver about being hot and tired after our full on day. He told us about a local waterfall and swimming hole, once we were there I thought I had gone to heaven! This was amazing, and possibly the highlight of my day. The water was cold and refreshing and was such a change from beach where we would usually swim, I think I am converted!
Now it was later in the day and we were all getting tired but had a few cards to pull still. Stop at a playground for a swing….. this card led to all of my dreams coming true and really topping the day off. We saw bats! I have come to Australia quite a lot in the past 2 years but have never been in the right place at the right time to see them, people think I am crazy wanting to see them so badly. But in the tree above the playground were at least a dozen of them. Eating and climbing, and ever flying above us. Perfect!
I honestly don’t think we could have had a better day, the perfect mix of adventure and relaxing, the best part was that we didn’t plan any of it. We went out in the morning with no idea where we would end up (I was hoping at some point in a body of water) there was no decision fatigue, we didn’t have time for it! We really enjoyed being able to explore this way, just the joy of Getting Lost to see what we could find.
