What if we told you that we know about a place you can stay in your own private loft above a potters workshop. That you’d be staring out at a river from your spot in the spa pool on the deck, listening to the waterfall babble and the Kiwi in the bush. Not to mention it’s a casual stroll up to Kainui Road Vineyard with their Saturday afternoon live music. And what if we told you that you could rent it for less than $150 a night.
Well, let me introduce you to Mike and Nicky’s place (known officially as The Studio Loft on AirBnB – which you can book here).
James seems to be blessed with having family with amazing houses with an incredibly good geographic spread around New Zealand. While that’s awesome for us, it’s usually not so great for you – until now….
James Uncle Mike and Aunt Nicky (and dog Tobie) have an amazing house in Waipapa (just 10 minutes out of Kerikeri) and it’s available as to rent as an AirBNB.
Nicky is a local Potter, who trained with Barry Brickell and is a frequent face with her pottery at the Packhouse market in Kerikeri. In our house however she is better known as the person who makes the fancy cups that Mum loves and the kids aren’t allowed to use!
This cute little studio is just above Nicky’s pottery studio with decks out to both sides. And even better, you can ask Nicky to give you a pottery lesson, or if you’d rather just shop the finished product (which I definitely do every time I visit) you can do that too.
There’s a spa that’s shared on the main deck with Mike and Nicky where you can listen out for the Kiwi in the trees surrounding the property – how magical is that.
Or you can go for a stroll down to the river and see the waterfall or the ducks strolling around.
There’s so much to do outside you may not spend a lot of time inside, but when you do there is a couch to watch TV on, a table to work on, coffee (in said fancy cups), kitchenette and of course a bed for two.
And if you did feel the need to venture further you’ll find Kerikeri just a 10 minute drive away or a casual stroll to Kainui Road Vineyard with their Saturday afternoon live music.
I can always tell a lot about a place by how much it inspires me to write and I could have sat here all day writing. But alas we had more exploring to do and Mike and Nicky had their next guest arriving.
