Exploring the coast of ghosts at Whatipu
With a moniker like the “coast of ghosts” you know before you get there that Whatipu is going to feel a little different than your average west coast beach and it certainly doesn’t disappoint. Like something out of a Narnia book, Whatipu has it’s fair share of ghost stories to share. Read more here
Kauri Point – Auckland’s last undiscovered beach
Auckland’s last undiscovered beach, the beach at Kauri Point is a small bay, hugged on both sides by cliffs and rocks and surrounded by forest. Accessible by a 10 minute walk through forest with clear, deep water waiting on the other side this little bay is a real hidden gem on Auckland’s coastline. Read more here

Maraetai is easternmost suburb of greater Auckland and has beautiful scenery and safe swimming beaches. The gateway to the Pohutakawa Coast it’s a great spot for a leisurely Sunday Drive. Read more here
Mount Eden – the best place to climb a mountain in Auckland
Mount Eden has recently been closed off to vehicles which makes this mountain climb even better than it has been before as pedestrian’s can now walk freely up the wide road that twists around the mountain. Up the top you will be rewarded with 360 degree views of Auckland from Auckland’s highest natural vantage point. Read more here
Best place to explore – North Head
North Head is an amazing historic reserve located in Devonport, Auckland with not only sweeping views of the Hauraki Gulf, the island and the city of Auckland but also a rich military history dating back to 1878. But most importantly for the kids – it has tunnels and secret hide outs – lots of them! Make sure to bring a torch and get exploring. Read more here
Watch the sunset at Piha
Only an hour from Auckland City it’s close, beautiful and rugged, the food is great and affordable and it is hands down the best spot to watch the sunset in Auckland. Read more here
Watch the sunrise at Milford Beach
The best spot to watch the sunrise in Auckland has to be Milford Beach. Watching the sun come up behind Rangitoto Island and slowly fill the sky with colour is just amazing from this vantage point. Read more here
