More information

To design this game we worked with the lovely Rosie and Kuruho from Kura Rēhia who translated our misdirections into te reo Māori. They then consulted with a certified translator to ensure the quality of the mahi. We really love the passion that Rosie and Kuruho have for bringing te reo Māori into ways we can have fun together as family and friends in Aotearoa.

This kit is the perfect starter pack for people wanting to find hidden gems of the beaten track, while exploring their backyard.  It contains 26 “misdirection cards” which give you random directions to (things like turn left, follow a blue car, head in the direction the wind is blowing) to get you being mindfully random in your exploration.

Our cards measures 91mm x 55mm.

Want to customise your game? You can add one of our suitcases in your favourite colour. Our suitcases fit 45 cards and are great for combining packs and taking them out and about.

Please remember to play the game responsibly and make sure that you stay safe and able to get yourself back home at all times.  If you have any other questions please e-mail us at cat@gettinglost.co.nz

Lost in Language: A Whānau Journey with Te Reo Māori and 'Te Tipi Haere' at Waitangi

Te Reo Māori is not just a language; it is a window into the worldview and cultural nuances of the Māori people. Our whānau have a rich whakapapa of diverse cultures spanning Māori, Samoan, Scottish, and English ancestry, each thread weaving a story of resilience, tradition, and adaptation. This year I took the opportunity to take the ‘Te Tipi Haere / Getting Lost: Bilingual Edition’ with us up to the Treaty Grounds in Waitangi on Waitangi Day. As we meandered through the Treaty Grounds, you could hear the richness of so many conversations in Te Reo Māori adding a layer of authenticity to the experience, bridging the gap between the past and the present. It reminded us that language is not merely a means of communication but a vessel carrying the stories, traditions, and identity of a people. Even though the cards are bilingual, we made a rule to only use the Te Reo Māori instructions and challenged ourselves on our understanding of them. Learning and gaining confidence in Te Reo Māori is an empowering journey, and for our boys this comes as their knowledge and understanding grows, that they’ll be able to navigate the world with confidence, knowing they carry the linguistic legacy of their people. Playing the ‘Te Tipi Haere / Getting Lost: Bilingual Edition' game added a layer of fun and had us exploring the grounds in a way that had ease, a sense of spontaneity, and a hint of whānau competition sprinkled in there too. As we left the Treaty Grounds, the echoes of Te Reo Māori, the language of our tīpuna lingered in our minds, serving as a lasting reminder of the meaningful connection forged through this beautiful language and cultural exploration. Our whānau are all at differing levels of our Te Reo Māori journey and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge, fun, growth in confidence and sense of kotahitanga this game delivered.

Tēnā koe Roimata. I love seeing how you take our games and apply them in such a beautiful way to your world.

Great to see you include a te reo Māori translation. we would not otherwise have brought them. a good start to be including local purakau with local Iwi mandate.
Ka mau te wehi!

Tēnā rawa atu koe, we feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to collaborate with Kura Rēhia on this mahi and contribute a very small part to growing daily use of te reo Māori

Love it!

Bought as Christmas present for grandyz so unused as yet but I personally think it's a wonderful idea! Such an easy fun way to bring te reo into our everyday dialogue 💜

Thanks so much for the review. I use them a lot to practice my te reo. I have one on my desk that I can flick to and read through.
