The Adventurers Edition

The Getting Lost Game is a real world travel adventure game created in New Zealand and played around the world to get wonderfully lost and explore new places.

This kit is the perfect starter pack for people wanting to find hidden gems of the beaten track, while exploring their backyard.  And yes, you can play it anywhere in the world.

It contains 26 “misdirection cards” which give you random directions to (things like turn left, follow a blue car, head in the direction the wind is blowing) to get you being mindfully random in your exploration.

You can choose one of our 4 coloured suitcases made out of plant based plastic or a cardboard box for your Adventurers Edition.

The Getting Lost Game is designed by Kiwi couple Cat & James, with help (and a lot of road testing) from their 3 daughters.  They create, assemble and ship them from their home in Birkenhead, Auckland and (with the exception of the compasses) all products are made in New Zealand.

Which option do I choose?

Boxed – with this option your cards come in our custom designed cardboard box.  This is a great option for gifting and to keep all your cards together in the one place.  It also looks great matching designs with our other booster packs.

Cased – Available in your choice of our 4 coloured cases made in New Zealand using a plant based plastic.  Choose this option for gifting, to keep all your cards safe and together or just because you love the case (we do too!).

More information about the game

You can find out about how we designed the game here, ideas on how to play the game here or you can watch an interview on The Project over here about the game.

We encourage you to make your own rules and the ways you can play it are endless and entirely adaptable to you.

Here’s some ideas we’ve had though…

      • For quick play, pick a new direction card at each intersection or after you’ve completed a direction
      • For a game that lasts a couple of hours pick a new card every 5 minutes
      • Want to keep it simple?  Just keep in the direction cards (left, right, north, south etc) and take ones more likely to take you further from home
      • Looking for a weekend get away?  Play the game until you get the “head for home” card and then find a hotel or campground in what ever town you are in when you get the card
      • Don’t want to stop for treats?  Take the treat and drink card out before you start playing
      • Want to surprise someone?  Add in your own card in the middle (we even make proposal cards and have been part of over 30 proposals!)

Our suitcases measures 100mm x 85mm x 24mm.  Your suitcase fits up to 45 cards.  If you need more space for extra cards we sell extra suitcases (we call these Matching Luggage) too.

Each card measures 91mm x 55mm and they’re also printed in NZ.  They have misdirection cards on one side and NZ locations (known as our inspiration cards) on the other side.  All these locations can be found on our blog so its perfect for a little holiday inspiration and dreaming.

The mini compass is an optional add on (please note, this is not NZ made – the rest of your game is though).  It is 20mm (so please don’t give this to under 3’s as it is a choking hazard).  Just like Superman wears his undies on the outside we recommend you put your compass on the outside of your case too for the best fit.  Just loop the cord around the handle – easy!

The game is ideally suited to outdoor play and there are a few cards you won’t be able to use if you are on foot (like follow a white car – unless you are very quick!).  But if you do want to play on foot we recommend you add on the Walkers Edition for more walking misdirections.

Please remember to play the game responsibly and make sure that you stay safe and able to get yourself back home at all times.  Please don’t leave your case in a hot car – it will warp!  If you are leaving it in a car tuck it under a seat or in the glove box or somewhere cool.

Very expensive for what you actually get especially when you compare to what games you can buy in shop for $30 odd dollars. Good game though

I bought this for quality family time with my niece. She is a rather independent young lady, so giving her the opportunity to be in charge of our adventure was very empowering for her. I am a bit suspect that the ‘stop for a treat’ card kept showing up somehow……

I ordered 2 of these games on 12th December. One was local for Auckland and the other one for Queensland Australia . Both arrived to the recipients in plenty of time for Christmas . Much appreciated .
